HDB is an extremely idioticly rigid organisation
eh ok i know i had mentioned somewhere tat i will not post negative stuff on this blog but i'm really sianz abt this whole issue and quite some ppl have been asking me abt it so i'll just write it here and need not repeat myself.
Just this week, HDB sent a letter to my place (a HDB 1-room flat which is on rental) stating tat our tenancy is expiring on 31 Jan 09 (1.5 months notice!) and wants us to apply for a renewal also stating tat if the household monthly income is above $3000 we got to pay ard $300 per month for the rental instead of the subsidised rate which we have had when our tenancy 1st started.
to cut things short, basically they are asking for a rent tats totally not worth the place or for us to move out. so implication is tat i gotta buy a flat to move out asap given the limited finances i have.
moving to a permanent flat has always been my desire, but the tricky part now is financing the purchase, the rigid HDB guidelines rules tat my family is not eligible for the HDB loan as my dad used to own a 4-room flat before he went bankrupt. i wld need the loan in order to finance the purchase of a 3-room flat at $180K valuation and $15K COV.
so i'm currently battling with HDB regarding the eligibility for the loan, hoping to get this through and get my new home smoothly in the near future, estimated march or april 09...
i'm actually having an information overload now after reading through countless pages of the HDB websites and other related stuff
my conclusion is tat HDB is a rigid piece of stone and it totally does not agree with its aim of providing affordable housing for all singapore citizens. well at least they dun seem to provide for the "fallen into poverty and climbing out" grp.
but amidst all this, i cld see some small miracles which happened. the 1st was tat i had actually saw an advert one late nite 2 weeks ago on this flat which i'm looking to buy now, and this advert mysteriously disappeared the next day, maybe cos it was pasted outside the lift. i initially tot tat its a great buy and had asked my parents once if they wanna consider it. now after the letter came, we called up my bro's agent fren and he managed to find tat this flat i saw really existed for sale, so now i'm praying tat the flat will remain unsold till i can get the loan approval and purchase tat flat.
the plus points of the flat is tat it is very near my current place, minimal disruption to lifestyle, it is fully renovated and ready to move in condition, it has a split air-con unit, it also has an additional utility room after upgrading ie a 3+1 room flat actually, its really smthg i'd love to have for now. pls pray with me tat i will be able to get this flat and also tat there will not be any problems such as loan shark disturbances due to the previous owner, which my mum is very worried abt. thanks
