Birthdays...
recently just helped to plan a bday and it set me thinking and recalling all the bdays i've spent meaningfully... my bdays in pri sch were virtually non-existant cos my family dun celebrate much bdays, just a family dinner, then maybe bday prez, seriously cant remember much, sec sch only met up with my best fren, wilson for the later yrs, guess its cos my bday were always during sch hols...
in JC was the 1st time i had more organised bdays, JC1 was quite vague actually, but think i did celebrate it with some closer JC mates, JC2 was the best, cos tat was my 1st bday in Hope, it was after some gathering in NUS at tat time, and i can only vaguely remember tat there was either a flour bomb or water bomb sabo, and they got 2 very unlikely candidates to throw the bomb at me, xuanpei and limin, and i vaguely remember tat the bomb dropped flat on the ground lol, there was also another celebration with my JC classmates, went KTV and i got wenjiang and alan to come by to get to know them... it was actually the best yr i ever i had bah...
after tat was in NS, my 1st bday overseas, in the land of brunei, by a whole bunch of "strangers" who just did it out of obligation to the SAF core value of care for soldiers... tat was the worst yr... after tat was another nice yr, it was v meaningful cos i spent tat bday tuition some grp of bros and sis and they celebrated my bday with me at a macs in hougang/serangoon area i think lol, my memory is bad, next up was my 1st bday in NUS yr 1 going 2... which i can really recall... but i think i spent the nite at the genacts clubhse, doing door gifts for the matriculation and there wasnt an actual bday celebration, there was another celebration with the genacts web team back then, was a nice time with these ppl i served along side with...
NUS yr 2 going 3 bday was a heart warming one at the then latitude cafe in OG orchard, it was some KC wannabe thingy lol contestants were marcus, robert and kangwei, quite small celebration but it was cute hahaha, hosted by Ms Chia Jiayan and Mr Marcus Tan heehee, the next was in PGP before one of the subds, was quite a last min thingy cos lots of ppl were still preparing for the subd actually, but well after tat i got a mini durian cake from claire! then after tat was just last yr heehee, when the adults caregrp was freshly formed, sharings were all heart felt but it felt just like a time of sharing more than a celebration lol
tat accounts for my 7 bdays in Hope so far, seriously am blessed by some of it, but also felt quite sad cos my bdays were mostly v rushed and stuff, cos it always coincides with the busy periods of matriculation... oh not to forget to mentioned tat i was most blessed in 2005 by 3 crazy frens who came by my house unexpectedly, thank God for u all, WZ HC and HX, love ya all lots :) guess its always those personal celebrations tat leave me v touched and blessed, while those grp celebrations tat leave me desiring for more... especially in contrast to the effort put in for other bdays ard... i know its a wrong mentality and i have been working against it, but it just seems to trigger again amidst all these tots i have abt bdays... guess i'm presently looking forward more to the personal celebrations i will have in a month's time, thank God for all u who really matter in my life! i'm really blessed to have frens like u all :)
